A Iguatu do Céu de Suely
Palavras-chave This paper uses Love for sale (2006), film by Karim Aïnouz, to deepen into temporal syncretism in peripheral countries related to concepts such as modernity and contemporaneity (which are Eurocentric in their origin). Aïnouz presents the “sertão” as a place of temporalities coexistence, stating the unequal process of modernity. Suely embodies this conflict when appears out of place and out of time as she is unable to readapt herself to the hometown of Iguatu after living in São Paulo. The film narrative and interviews of the director are used to illustrate and underlie the discussion, making explicit Aïnouz’s thoughts and comparing it to what some thinkers of the same issues stated.
