Um espelho, duas almas e algumas teorias: análise do conto “O Espelho” sob o olhar da antropologia do consumo
Palavras-chave: This article articulates different studies of the material culture that, in this perspective, serves as a theoretical basis for the analysis of the short story “The Mirror - Sketch of a new theory of the human soul” (1882), by Machado de Assis. The approach comprises the interpretation of fictional narrative not in the sense of a classic literary critic, but as a pedagogical and metaphorical tool to explain the theoretical perspectives of communication and the anthropology of consumption over modern material goods and consumption practices. This methodology of analysis was able to demonstrate the importance of objects in the constitution of identities and the centrality of consumption practices in contemporary culture.
