A cultura material é mesmo elementar, querido Holmes

A proposta deste artigo é refletir acerca do uso e relevância de objetos na elaboração da narrativa literária de Sherlock Holmes e na consolidação desse universo, dentro mas também fora da estrutura ficcional, baseando-se, especialmente, nas propostas dos estudos da Cultura Material, nas perspectivas teóricas da Antropologia do Consumo e nas estruturas narrativas do romance policial clássico para construir esse diálogo. Pondera-se, e esta é a hipótese, que a cultura material faz-se considerável no romance policial de Conan Doyle em três diferentes esferas, arquitetando o todo significativo, já bastante consolidado, de um dos personagens literários mais habitáveis do imaginário coletivo.

This article seeks to reflect on the use and relevance of objects in the elaboration of Sherlock Holmes’s narrative and in the consolidation of this universe, both inside and outside the fictional structure, based in particular on the proposals of material culture studies, in the theoretical perspectives of Anthropology of Consumption and in the narrative structures of the classic police novel in order to build this dialogue. It’s thought, just an hypothesis, that material culture becomes considerable in Conan Doyle's detective novel in three different spheres, architecting the already well-established significant whole of one of the most livable literary characters of the collective imaginary.
