Do Lindy Hop ao Funk Carioca: representações do pânico moral na construção midiática da juventude

A partir da difusão e da legitimação de rótulos e estereótipos, a mídia contribui para a disseminação de pânicos morais. Muitos desses estão relacionados à juventude e seus entretenimentos, uma vez que essa faixa etária está fortemente ligada à transgressão. Ao longo da história, vários estilos de danças sociais escandalizaram muitos na época de seu surgimento, mas, apesar disso, ou por causa disso, ficaram muito populares entre os jovens. Este artigo apresenta a teoria do pânico moral, com base nas obras de Stanley Cohen e Stuart Hall, analisa como as noções de desvio e de juventude estão intimamente conectadas e destaca como esses medos exagerados estão presentes na história de diversas danças, como o lindy hop e o funk carioca.
By diffusing and legitimating labels and stereotypes, the media contributes to the spread of moral panics. Many of these are related to youth and their entertainments, since this age group is strongly linked to transgression. Through history, various styles of social dances shocked many at the time of their arising but, despite that, or because of that, became very popular among young people. This article presents the theory of moral panic based on the works of Stanley Cohen and Stuart Hall, analyzes how the notions of "deviation" and "youth" are closely connected and highlights how those exaggerated fears are present in the history of various dances, such as the lindy hop and the carioca funk.
